My servicer isn't listed: insurance claim check facts

Every mortgage servicer has this process, usually under the name 'loss draft department'. Many use the same Assurant-run InsuranceClaimCheck portal; others run their own. The steps in your roadmap are the same — only the addresses, phone numbers, and dollar thresholds differ.

Good to know

  • Call the number on your monthly mortgage statement and ask for the 'loss draft' or 'insurance claims' department.
  • Ask them three things: Is my claim monitored? Where exactly do I mail the endorsed check? Which documents do you need from me?
  • Write down the date and the name of every person you talk to.
